Three Types of Drinking Water Filters
More and more people want the clean, fresh taste of filtered water but do not want to pay for bottled water. A cheaper alternative to bottled water is to buy filters and filter your own water. This is generally much cheaper than buying bottled water. There are three main types of water filter: under sink water filters, water filter pitchers, refrigerator filters, and water bottle filters. Each of these types of drinking water filters offers fresh, clean tasting water at a fraction of the cost of buying bottled water.
Under Sink Water Filters
These are high capacity filters that are installed directly into the water line to your sink. Depending on the size, an under sink filter can filter between 500 and 3,000 gallons of water before needing to be changed. Some filters can only filter cold water, while some are able to filter either hot or cold. Sinks equipped with an instant hot faucet, which produces boiling water within seconds of being turned on, will need a filter that can handle hot water. Under sink drinking water filters are ideal for people who get their drinking water from the faucet and like to cook with filtered water.
Water Filter Pitchers
Ideal for people who like their drinking water to be as cold as possible, these drinking water filters fit into a water pitcher that can be put in the refrigerator. There is generally a reservoir at the top of the filter that is filled from the tap. The water then passes through the filter to the pitcher below. The pitcher is designed so that once the pitcher on the bottom is full, no more water will be filtered from the reservoir until some is poured out of the pitcher.
Refrigerator Filters
Some refrigerators that have an ice maker and/or water dispenser also have a water filter. Generally located at the back of the refrigerator section, the filter is attached to the water line before it goes into the freezer. This way both the water for the ice and the water dispensed through the door are filtered. This is another good choice for those that like their drinking water to be as cold as possible.
Water Bottle Filters
A lot of people like to take a bottle of water with them everywhere they go. Good drinking water filters for these people are water bottle filters. These are small, cylindrical filters that fit into the neck of a water bottle. The bottle can be filled with water from any source of potable water. The water is passed through the filter as the person is drinking. This way, no matter how many times you fill up your bottle, or where, you will always be drinking filtered water.
